Find Your Voice!

It is my firm belief that anyone can learn how to sing beautifully. If you are willing to work hard and have a passion for it, you can learn to find the beauty of your own instrument.

Beautiful singing involves the interactions of three fundamental principles:

  1. Flexibly Balanced Posture
  2. Low Released Breathing
  3. Coordinated larynx

Once these interactions have been mastered through effective practicing, then we can apply style. This means that by applying time-tested fundamentals you can learn to sing anything from opera and art-song to pop and jazz.

Using proven exercises and teaching methods, along with healthy and effective repertoire choices, you will see steady and consistent success throughout your experience in my studio. No matter what your learning style or skill level, I use methods specifically chosen for each student that will lead to the accomplishment of your goals.

Students from my studio have found success on many levels from winning local competitions to acceptance into major university vocal performance programs. From my university teaching experience I have noticed a lack of quality training of singing fundamentals in incoming freshman. My high school age singers always place very well even upon arriving at the university, if they apply these skills.

I also teach children from the age of 5 and up with age-specific curriculum that is both fun and challenging. Repertoire is chosen very carefully--most of the music they sing they are already familiar with at some level, or is simple to learn. We play games that aid in support and teach them to be more healthy in their speech, even at the playground.

In my studio you will learn to be a good singer and better musician. I feel it is important for singers to learn to read music well, become good sight-singers, and increase their overall appreciation and musicianship. I teach my students to be active listeners and improve personal technique by listening to the best singers of their style/genre.

I believe in the effective use of technology to aid in singing progress. All lessons are video recorded and uploaded onto your own private "student page". If used effectively these are wonderful tools for the student to monitor progress and witness the effectiveness of certain adjusments.
